Improve business with colour
We all understand the power of image in our personal life. The media constantly bombards us with images of the latest fashions, colours for the season in clothing, accessories and of course home interiors. Colour in the office is often overlooked, find out how colour can improve your business performance.
The power of using the right colour when it comes to fashion and home interiors is well documented and many work hard to follow the advice and gain improvements in their lives and careers.
In business, especially customer facing fashion lead sales environments such as retail, catering and hospitality, design, colour palettes and accessories can be the difference between a highly successful business and one that struggles to succeed. Large businesses and corporations employ armies of consultants from interior designers, colour consultants, merchandisers and graphic designers to ensure the image and colour schemes used will provide the optimum return on investment from the space in question.
It goes with out saying much of our everyday lives is affected and manipulated in one way or another by image, colour and design.
Colour at work matters
With many people in the UK working in fixed office locations it follows that providing a good environment to work in should increase productivity. However business owners often overlook the impact of the office environment on productivity especially in terms of effect colour has on their employees.
In a 2015 survey by YouGov, people were asked about their productivity when working away from the traditional office based environment. The study showed that a massive 30{d036232c69ef6a1e76fb3053a5a68c23ff81455415add8f1db08da21f3e938da} of the employees who were able to work remotely felt that their productivity increased when they were away from the office environment. It’s important to understand that many employees may have been less distracted when working away from home, however it’s fair to make a correlation between the impact that environment would have on the employee and productivity. Given the amount of time many people spend creating the right colour scheme and environment in their homes, it could be said employees working in a better environment pays employers dividends in terms of productivity.
To support the need for great colour in our working environments, a study by the University of Texas found that colours such as beige, grey and white often induced feelings of sadness and depression especially in women. Whilst men reported similar emotions when exposed to purple and and orange colours.
Other scientific studies have indicated colour has a dramatic impact on mood and indeed productivity.
