Choosing interior colours to stimulate our emotions

Many will have heard about the psychological effects of colour on our mood.  It’s relatively well known that colours such as red inspire a mood of love and romance but can also say danger to us.  Colours such as green can provide a sense of tranquillity or growth, were as blue can be calming yet feel sometimes cold.

The colours you choose for your interior decor sets the scene for how the room is to be used and the emotions you would like the room to create.

Choosing paint and interior colours is tough enough but factoring in the emotional aspects of living with a colour scheme adds pressure to us all, especially if we want to make a big change.  The way we feel on a day to day basis, the stresses and strains of work and life in general can also change the way we respond to colour.

All these factors make choosing colour for interior decor so much more tough than people initially believe it to be.  Ok some people may simply throw caution to the wind and radically change their room colour scheme at the flick of a wrist, caring little about the cost or the time it takes to implement.  Of course these types of people either know for certain they are making the right decision or care little if they get it wrong, knowing all the while they can flick their wrist again to rectify the mistake.

Sample pots rarely help

Many people will use sample pots to test interior colour combinations out prior to painting.  People can sit with daubs of paint on the wall of the room for a long time, wondering which combination works best.  Of course if you choose to have a feature wall of a contrasting colour the impact can be very different from a small patch on the wall.  Sample pots should be primarily used when you’re happy with the concept of the colour scheme and simply want to test different shades of the scheme.  It’s also preferable to use them on a piece of board rather than directly on the wall.

So with all these consideration to keep in mind and whilst combating the stresses and strains of everyday life, many people never quite achieve their interior decor heaven.  Opting instead for a quick clean up rather than the right colour palette that helps conjure the right emotions.

Missing out on this opportunity to gain the right colour palette for the right emotion essentially robs you of the opportunity to gain a more beneficial and healthier living space.
